Impressive Debut Leads to Bees' Fifth Straight "W"
With Tyler King making his debut start for Burlington, the Bees took yesterday’s (July 11) game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 5-0. The Bees dominated on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. King’s debut went about as well as could be expected, with three innings pitched, one hit allowed, three strikeouts and no walks.
Offensively, the runs all came quickly, with Kevin Maitan starting the scoring off with a long solo shot in the bottom of the first. Alvaro Rubalcaba added an RBI single in the second, Francisco Del Valle piled on with a two-run homer of his own in the third and Rubalcaba added another RBI single in the third to cap the scoring for the Bees.
The win is the Bees’ fifth straight, as the club is firing on all cylinders at the moment. This stretch has seen the Bees climb out of the cellar in the Midwest League Western division for the second half, and a continuation of this play will be critical to finding themselves in the playoff spot they so nearly achieved in the first half. Today, however, the Bees can go for two straight series sweeps when they take on the TinCaps in the series finale, with a first pitch set for 6:30 PM.
