Donald L. "Tailspin" Smith, 88, of Macomb passed away at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Montana.
He was born on May 25, 1930 in Walnut Grove to Russell and Rose Morrow Smith. He married Elnora Wilson on October 3, 1952 in Macomb. She passed away on October 27, 2011.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and one brother Russell Gene Smith.
Donald is survived by one son, Tim (Vicki) Smith of Macomb; two daughters, Karen (Rick) Kitch of Polson, Montana and Tammy (Todd) Potter of Carthage; six grandchildren, Todd (Michelle) Kitch, Chad (Laurie) Kitch, Jaime Dygert, Jason (Jennifer) Smith, Jessica (Matt) Koeppen and Lucas Potter; ten great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Shelby, Sydney, Addley and Maisey Kitch, Allison and Nicholas Smith and Silvi and Reva Koeppen, one brother Chester Lyle (Nona) Smith, sisters-in-law Joanna Smith, Betty (Ed) Agans, and Alice Hodges, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1947 until 1951. He worked as a union electrician for many years, and was a member of IBEW Local # 34. He retired in 1992. Donald very much loved his family and was an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls ,White Sox, and Blackhawks fan, and was honored as a veteran in October 2017 during the National Anthem at a Blackhawks game in Chicago.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Crossing in Macomb with Pastor Ben Ellefritz officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb with full military rites conducted by Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Macomb V.F.W.
