Monmouth-Roseville picked up perhaps the biggest win in program history, when they knocked off Eureka on Saturday by a score of 33-28. Eureka had come in 9-1 and were the 2 seed in their bracket.
“I thought Saturday was another example of how well our guys responded to adversity,” Said Head Coach Jeremy Adolphson of the Titans’ performance, “It may not have been our best game of the year, but it may have been our toughest.”
Offensively, Monmouth got it done in a variety of ways and through a variety of players. Jamonny Skinner continued his run of excellent play, as he put up 9 catches for 160 yards and one touchdown. Addison Fletcher threw for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns, despite throwing 2 interceptions, with his touchdowns going to Skinner and JC Sells. CJ Daniel, the team’s leading rusher, got into the end zone once, as did Austin Johnson.
This was a gutsy performance against one of the more talented teams Monmouth had faced all season. Eureka quarterback Matt Martin was able to eclipse the 300-total-yard mark on the game, but Monmouth was able to keep him in check, as Jamonny Skinner got a key interception off of him late in the game. Jakob Thomas also put in a great defensive performance, as he racked up 9 tackles total, including 2 for loss.
“Eureka is a very athletic and talented team that would not go away, but we were able to respond and make the biggest plays when it mattered most in order to get the victory,” Adolphson remarked, “The atmosphere at that game was incredible and our fan support rivaled theirs for sure.”
The win means Monmouth-Roseville moves on to the Quarterfinal round of the 3A IHSA State Football Playoffs, where they will travel to Herscher. Herscher got to this point by way of a 17-14 win last Saturday over Hall. Kickoff for Monmouth-Roseville vs. Herscher is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, at 2 PM.
