The Rushville-Industry Rockets welcomed in the Ducks of the Havana/Midwest Central Co-op on Friday night, October 5, and handed them a 36-22 loss.
The Rockets were down 8-0 after the first quarter, but did not let the score get them down. They roared back with a 30-6 run between the second and third quarters and never looked back.
“Kids played hard and overcame some adversity,” Said Head Coach Brian Lafferty of his team’s effort, “Stuck together when some things didn’t go our way. Very proud of the team effort.”
The Rockets have been a run-dominant offense all season, and it’s not hard to understand why when examining the results. Manny Garcia led the way again with 166 rushing yards and a touchdown on only 18 carries, while Kreeden Allen chipped in with 24 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Josh Triplett only recorded one passing attempt, but scored twice on the ground. The fifth and final touchdown for Rushville was scored by Javen Quinn.
“We played physical and aggressive,” Said Lafferty of his running attack, “[made] a few correctable mistakes that we were able to overcome. We were able to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage.”
Take nothing away from Havana, however, as they fought through that disastrous 30-6 run to make it a two-possession game in the fourth quarter.
“Hats off to Havana and Coach Wright for being very well prepared and their kids playing very hard,” Lafferty said of his opponent’s gritty effort.
This week will be a tough one for the Rockets, as they will welcome the undefeated Chargers of Illini West in for a home contest. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7 PM.
