MACOMB - The Western Illinois University Chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has begun their 6th annual book drive. The drive will run from now until Tuesday, April 30th, with a goal to collect 1,600 books. All of the books collected by the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter will be used to stock up the community's Free Little Libraries and children's books will be given to the United Way, the WIU Infant and Preschool Center and Edison and Lincoln schools. Adult books will be given to The Elms and the YMCA.
Last year, the Phi Kappa Phi chapter collected over 1,600 books and won the “Stock the Shelf” national competition. The win will be bringing a Free Little Library to Macomb. Free Little Libraries are freestanding boxes where anyone can donate or borrow books with the goal of promoting literacy throughout communities.
Anyone who would like to help the WIU Phi Kappa Phi can donate new or lightly-used books. The chapter is also accepting cash donations to be used for book purchases. Donations can be mailed to WIU Professor Robert C. Intrieri at 156 Waggoner Hall – WIU, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455.
