John Duane Hamm, age 88, of Adair, Illinois, passed away at 4:40 A.M. on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Grand Prairie Assisted Living in Macomb.
He was born on November 4, 1929 in Industry, Illinois the son of Paul and Beatrice Gray Hamm. He married Donna Sayers on September 18, 1949, she preceded him in death on May 12, 2015.
John is survived by one son Stan (Terri) Hamm of Adair, four daughters Susan (Jack) Pace of Macomb, Stacy (Terry) Thompson of Macomb, Sara (Mark) Kugler of Macomb and Faith (Jason) Edmunds of Normal, nine grandchildren Josh (Kelly) Hamm of Macomb, Jeni (Mike) Nelson of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Sasha (Nick) Chambers of Bushnell, Sadie Magee of Macomb, Adam (Becky) Thompson of Lockport, Austin (Alissa Henley) Thompson of Macomb, Christa (Brian Sears) Miller of Industry, Lucy Edmunds of Normal, and Eli Edmunds of Normal, nine great-grandchildren Connor and Sydney Hamm, Carter, Landon and Oliver Chambers, Conlee and Tatum Magee, Owen Parker, and Jack Thompson, and a daughter -in-law Verla Jean Hamm of Industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Steve Hamm, one grandson Walker Pace, and one brother Roger Hamm.
John graduated from Industry High School and had lived in Adair all of his life. He was a cattleman and farmer and raised and showed purebred Angus cattle. John was a co-founder, and a past president of the Illinois Cattlemen’s Association. He had also served on the Adair Fire Department. John was also a member of the LaMoine Valley Angus Association.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Clugston – Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Capt. Adam Moore will officiate, and burial will be at the Pennington Point Cemetery in New Salem Township. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Salem Fire and Rescue, Salvation Army, or to MDH Hospice.
