Joyce Ann Phelps, 79 of Colchester, passed away at 1:52 A.M. Monday, February 13, 2017, at Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb, with her family at her side. She was born July 14, 1937, in West Frankfort, Illinois, to Orval and Lena Schoof Adams. Joyce was united in marriage to Gean Everett Phelps Sr. in Chicago, Illinois on February 1, 1954, he preceded her in death on October 13, 1995.
Surviving to mourn her passing are 3 Sons; Gean Phelps Jr., Colchester, Tim (Lora) Phelps, Colchester, David (Erin) Phelps, Mt. Sterling, 4 Daughters: Fortune (Bill) Brayfield, West Frankfort, Becky Phelps, Colchester, Kate Phelps, Colchester, Velta Phelps, Chatham, 14 Grandchildren: Robbie Phelps, Nici (Jon) Simon, Billy (Amber) Brayfield, Michael Phelps, Matt (Nicole) Icenogle, Kelly (Matt) Wilson, Alicia Phelps, Amber Phelps, Dallas Phelps, Braxton Phelps, Brodie Phelps, Crystal (Jon) Wingerter, Amber Friday, Shelby (Jake)Olsen, 13 Great Grandchildren: Jayden Phelps, Madi Hilligoss, Eldon Brayfield, Hoyt Icenogle, Addison Phelps, Karley Simon, Amya Filburn, Kayla Simon, Ella Brayfield, Grace Lynn Bainter, Harlow Brewer, Kelsey Ellison, Justin Wingerter, 1 Sister: Vyvan Lucas and 1 Honorary Sister: Rosalie Haddix.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 Brother: Bob Adams, and 1 Sister: Pat Visi.
Joyce had been employed at Colchester Nursing Center, Thompson Food Basket in Macomb and Apollo Cleaners in Macomb. Joyce was very skilled at Crocheting and enjoyed making gifts for her family and friends. She loved to set up a booth at the Colchester Labor Day Celebration to sell her Crocheting and visiting with every one that passed by. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was always on the go attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities.
Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Dale Gadberry. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the funeral home. Private Graveside services will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester at a later date.
