The Macomb Bombers Boys Basketball Team took down West Hancock 41-39 Wednesday night, closing out the month of January with a seventh consecutive victory. The Bombers were led by senior forward Carter Fayhee, who scored 16 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Macomb is now 14-7 on the season, with a 5-1 record in West Central Conference play.
The Bombers trailed 11-3 in the opening minutes of the game, but tightened up defensively shortly after that. Macomb closed the first quarter on a 7-2 run, and the game remained close from there on out. West Hancock still managed to lead for a majority of the game, with the Titans ending the third quarter up 26-24. Macomb held West Hancock scoreless until more than halfway through the final quarter, as the Bombers were able to get ahead and never let the lead slip.
In addition to Fayhee's strong night, Macomb junior point guard Ben Higgins was a major factor. Higgins scored 11 points while also being a pest defensively, limiting Titans point guard Riley Langford to 4 points. When these teams met in December in Hamilton, Langford scored 14 in a 57-43 victory. Higgins was not on the floor that night, as he missed that one with a groin injury.
The Titans were led by Drake Hammel and Peyton Dooley, each scoring 11. West Hancock's loss is only the second of the season. The Titans are now 22-2, with both losses coming in West Central competition.
Macomb retakes the floor Friday night against PORTA at 7:30 on home court. That is the second game in a three game homestand for MHS.
