Western Illinois Head Baseball Coach Ryan Brownlee has announced the 2018 Leatherneck Baseball schedule. WIU will have 20 home games and 32 road games. The season opens February 16 at Middle Tennessee State. The first homestand for the Leathernecks takes place March 16 against North Dakota State.
In addition to Middle Tennessee, Western will play non-league series' with Murray State (2/23-25), Evansville (3/2-4), Indiana State (3/10-12), and Indiana (3/13-14). Once Summit League play begins, non-league games will also be mixed in with Illinois State, Bradley, SIU-E and Iowa. The full schedule can be seen here.
Leatherneck baseball will hold its Sixth Annual Lead Off Dinner January 28 at The Forum in Macomb. The fundraising event starts at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, with a silent auction. Dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. program and live auction to follow. The featured guest speaker is former major leaguer Gary Matthews. The outfielder played in the MLB for sixteen years, including a four year stretch with the Cubs from 1984-87.
