The brackets are out for two local holiday basketball tournaments. The 72nd Annual Macomb Western Holiday Tournament (December 28-30) and the 36th Annual Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic (December 26-29) will feature some of the top teams in the West Central Illinois region.
The Macomb Western Holiday Tournament features sixteen teams. The tournament has awarded top four seeds to the following teams (from one to four): West Hancock, Farmington, Monmouth-Roseville, and Illini Bluffs. Macomb High School will match up with Lewistown in a first round matchup on December 28 at 6:30 p.m. inside Western Hall. The winner of that contest will face the victor of Illini Bluffs and Canton. The team that loses the opening contest moves into the consolation bracket, and will get a date with the team that loses the Illini Bluffs Canton matchup.
The Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic features twenty-three teams. The top nine seeds in the tournament receive first round byes. The top nine seeds (from one to nine) are: Pleasant Plains, Lewistown, Illini West, Barry Western, Routt, Brown County, Havana, Illini Bluffs, and West Hancock. Macomb was given a thirteen seed, pinning the Bombers up against twentieth seeded Abingdon-Avon at 10:30 a.m. on December 26 at Beardstown High School. The winner of that game will face fourth seeded Barry Western that afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
