Former Western Illinois Baseball catcher Adam Mcginnis has signed a free agent deal with the Chicago White Sox, following the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft. This comes after he was not one of the 1,215 players chosen during the draft. He has reported to the team's minor league program in Arizona.

McGinnis led the Summit League in batting average (.355) and on-base percentage (.471) in 2017. He is a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the top collegiate catcher in the nation. The Normal, IL product finished his WIU career in the 'Top 10' in hits (178/8th), doubles (34/T-8th), RBI (98/T-9th) and games played (5th).
