The Macomb High Baseball Team (10-18) ended its season yesterday with a 10-0 loss to Geneseo in 3A Regionals. The young Bombers team fell behind early, losing the game in five innings. The Macomb Softball Team lives to see another day, topping Peoria Central 13-0 in their regional opener. The Lady Bombers move on to face Washington today in Bartonville.
Macomb kept the game close for the first two innings, only giving up one run in that time. Geneseo started to pull away in the third, scoring three runs to make the score 4-0. Two more runs crossed the plate for Geneseo in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 6-0. After giving up those six runs in four innings, pitcher Brandon Bickers was pulled for Macomb. The bullpen failed to get a single out in the bottom of the fifth, with four more Geneseo runs scoring to end the playoff game in mercy rule fashion. The one Bombers hit on the day came on a Ben Higgins third inning infield single.
It only took four innings for Macomb to capture the double digit run lead needed to secure a mercy rule win. The Lady Bombers scored their 13 runs off of 16 hits, including a six run first inning to start the home game in style. Jordyn Hare pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 12 Lions batters in five innings. The game was played under very sloppy conditions, given the consistancy of percipitation in Macomb over the past week. MHS heads to Bartonville today to meet Washington, who had a bye in the first round of regionals.
