The Western Illinois Women's Basketball Team heads down to Tallahassee this morning with their NCAA Tournament First Round Game vs Florida State two days away.
The 26-6 Summit League Champions come in having won 11 straight games, most recently topping IUPUI 77-69 in overtime in that league championship game. Florida State, which is ranked 10th in the most recent AP Top 25 Poll and 13th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, bring in their 25-6 record this game. The Seminoles have struggled down the stretch though, losing 4 of their last 6 games, includng falling 58-56 to Miami in an ACC Quarterfinal game.
A 14 seed has never defeated a 3 seed in the women's tournament, going 0-88 since 1994 when the NCAA expanded the field to 64 teams. At a press conference at Western Hall yesterday, Leathernecks players and Head Coach JD Gravina stressed yesterday that the tall task of facing a tough power five conference team does not worry them.
